Sparse grass is usually the result of poor location or neglect. Regular care including core aeration and watering will usually bring a lawn back to life. It is not recommended to power rake a sparse lawn.

Around pine trees or between houses where shade and dryness are common are poor locations. These are the most probable reasons for a sparse lawn.

Heavy traffic can be very difficult to remedy although aeration will help tremendously.
